Why This Day Is Special 

This day is celebrated by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide to think about their peers in other countries, raise awareness about global issues, and raise funds for the international movement. It fosters international friendship, understanding, and global citizenship among millions of girls and young women. The day encourages girls to become active global citizens and make a positive impact on the world. It emphasizes shared values and sisterhood across borders.

History Behind the Day

World Thinking Day marks the shared birthday of Lord Baden-Powell (founder of the Boy Scout movement) and his wife, Olave Baden-Powell (World Chief Guide). The idea for a special day of "thinking" about fellow Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world originated at the 4th World Conference in 1926. It was renamed World Thinking Day in 1999. Each year, a theme focuses on a specific global issue or aspect of guiding.

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women globally. Through guiding, girls develop leadership skills, self-confidence, and a sense of community service. The "Thinking Day Fund" supports WAGGGS initiatives and projects worldwide. World Thinking Day, observed today by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), highlights the importance of friendship, leadership, and global understanding among girls and young women. World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14 , honors the birth of Dr. Karl Landsteiner , who discovered the blood groups A, B, AB, and O. This day raises awareness about the importance of regular blood donation and thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts . History Behind the Day The first World Blood Donor Day was observed in 2004, and it was later designated as an annual global event by the World Health Assembly in 2005 .
