World Art Day is observed annually on April 15 to celebrate the creative spirit of humanity and to promote the importance of art in education, culture, and peacebuilding. Proclaimed by UNESCO, this day highlights how art shapes our identity, reflects our shared history, and fuels dialogue across civilizations.

History Behind the Day

April 15 was chosen as World Art Day to honor the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, one of history’s greatest artists and polymaths. Introduced in 2012 by the International Association of Art (IAA/AIAP), and later adopted by UNESCO, the day underscores the role of the arts in advancing freedom of expression, innovation, and human development.

World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14 , honors the birth of Dr. Karl Landsteiner , who discovered the blood groups A, B, AB, and O. This day raises awareness about the importance of regular blood donation and thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts .
