World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14 , honors the birth of Dr. Karl Landsteiner , who discovered the blood groups A, B, AB, and O. This day raises awareness about the importance of regular blood donation and thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts . History Behind the Day The first World Blood Donor Day was observed in 2004, and it was later designated as an annual global event by the World Health Assembly in 2005 .
