History Behind the Day

The United Nations proclaimed June 13 as International Albinism Awareness Day in 2014 to celebrate the human rights of persons with albinism and to raise awareness about the issues they face. The theme for 2024 is "United in making our voice heard."

World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14 , honors the birth of Dr. Karl Landsteiner , who discovered the blood groups A, B, AB, and O. This day raises awareness about the importance of regular blood donation and thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts .
